Have you heard that in Rotterdam they have planted trees in water? As strange as this may sound, it is not too far from the truth. The floating forest of approximately twenty trees emerged in Rotterdam’s Rijnhaven earlier this year. The Bobbing Forest has been installed by the local art collective, Mothership. The project was inspired by the Columbian artist, Jorge Bakker.
Floating forest has been made predominantly from recycled materials and the trees and sea buoys have been donated. Whenever a part of the city is reconstructed, trees have to be moved. In the past, these trees would have been destroyed; nowadays, the city’s Public Works Department stores them!
